Northern routes out of Paris are less common for me, as I often find getting in and out of the city a bit of a hassle. When I do head in this direction, I prefer either a point-to-point ride with a train or a long enough loop that allows me to return via a different route.

Once you make your way outside Paris, this route veers off the beaten path, offering an alternative less visited option to the more popular southern routes that I often choose. After leaving the city, you’ll ride through a nice forested area and then follow a winding river valley west. From around 60 km to 140 km, the route takes you through a mix of small villages and rolling fields before reaching Versailles. By then, you’ll have put in a good number of kilometers, so the final stretch back through Sèvres is a more direct route.

A final 10 km along the quai completes the century ride and leads you to a well-earned coffee or beer at the cafe.

This particular route is a great choice for a sunny, calm day. There are some longer stretches of open fields, which can become challenging if the wind picks up, especially if you are by yourself. I enjoy starting this route early, getting out of the city before the streets come alive.
