Fontainebleau is a fantastic destination for a ride from Paris. I’ve shared a few different routes on the blog before, including both one-way and round-trip options. This week's route is another one-way ride, but with added mileage and elevation to create a more adventurous experience.

Unlike most Fontainebleau routes that follow the Marne out of Paris, this one starts like a ride to Chevreuse. You'll follow the Seine, climb Clamart, and make your way to Gif. From there, you'll climb out of the valley to the south and head towards Dourdan. Before reaching Dourdan, the route cuts east, taking you through rolling terrain with more climbing than you might expect. You'll pass through a beautiful mix of small villages and open fields as you make your way toward Barbizon.
Instead of cutting through the forest there, the route extends further south, allowing you to approach Fontainebleau heading north. This approach offers great views of the forest and includes a scenic switchback climb before a fast, false-flat 10 km stretch to finish off the ride.
The route passes by the château and several boulangeries before reaching the train station. Fontainebleau-Avon is on Ligne R, which gets you back to Gare de Lyon in just 45 minutes for only 2.5 euros.
If you're looking for a solid 100-mile ride with some great scenery and a visit to Fontainebleau, I highly recommend this route!
